Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
I do not suffer from C.R.P.S. but I have experienced severe prolonged pain a number of times and have a glimmer of an idea at what sufferers of this chronic and debilitating condition must go through. I know about the shadows that lurk just out of reach and the feelings of hopelessness. I saw a program about CRPS on “ABC 2” a couple of days ago and was immediately drawn to the young lady featured on the program. My heart went out to her and her plight. I dedicate this poem to her.
I guess I am talking about not losing hope.
Chronic Pain.
Stare into your eyes,
see your spotted ghosts roaming without fear,
in those forbidding crevices of your mind,
why not, if it’s not the pain,
see a spider lurking,
without any care for its trapped victim within,
creeping out of harmony somehow,
why not, if it’s not the pain.
Cry out loud,
feel the desperation,
damned be the world,
know not your limitations,
yes, it is easy for me,
it is easy to tell you that you matter,
it is easy for me to tell you that I care,
and no matter what,
I know it does matter,
no matter what you say,
why not, if it’s not the pain.
You do have choices,
and you know you can act,
but let me tell you,
that’s not where it’s at,
you, must see yourself first,
you must break through this unbearable pain,
you must see that you are important,
you’re important to yourself foremost,
you’re important to all those who love you,
you’re important to them,
even when they know,
that they can not make your pain go away,
to give up is not an answer.
I wish that I could do more,
you must not lose hope,
we all cling to it,
why not you!
Cry out loud,
why not, if it’s not the pain,
why not,
why not!
At the end only you can live with your pain,
as it is with me and my own private ghosts within.

This poem expresses a touching empathy for the suffering of others. Well said!

Time to Read !
If you saw this program you'd see this young lady and her momentous struggle with this painful condition.
Many people think that they are wronged by life but to see this girl put me in perspective. I could not but feel for her situation.
Thank you,
Alex.
