He bought me flowers
July 21st 2008 06:42
I’ve been bought my fair share of flowers in my life. I had a German boyfriend who bought me a ROSE A DAY for every day we were in love. I almost got sick of roses. Thankfully we broke up before that happened.
When you have babies, you get flowers. They are a pain in the arse to transport from the hospital back home amidst a newborn, baby paraphernalia and the Caesarean scar.
On birthdays, people give you more flowers than you can put in vases, large wishful things that shed their petals and get smelly all at the same time.
Girlfriends are great at the occasional ‘this is for no good reason’ bunch. Tight little pink buds that look good even if they smell like plastic.
I love flowers.
But I never loved them as much as when my eight year old son came home yesterday with the teeniest most withered little bunch of pathetic flowers he’d spent $8 of his $10 pocket money on. For me. The smile on his face when he handed them to me was a pride, perhaps even a male satisfaction that seemed to stem from the joy of discovering the power of the flower.
‘Why are you spending your pocket money on me?’ I asked.
‘Because I love you. Get over it,’ he said.
Boys. You gotta love them.

"Because I love you. Get over it." would have to be one of the best declarations of love I've heard in a long time! He's too gorgeous. It made me laugh out loud.
