We lose ourselves in ourselves

July 10th 2009 04:38
We lose ourselves in ourselves.
A poem about the relentless truth; how we can lose, or more apt forget about it, by hiding it somewhere in our lives and living a personified lie. A slow deterioration is all that is left if we do not correct it because the truth must be and always is relentless.

fakir untruth

We lose ourselves in ourselves

We tend to scurry around in our lives,
without direction, mostly in circles,
mundane repetition that is somehow a pretence,
always pretending but never ending,
a face in a mirror,
looks familiar somehow,
blurred by a mind not wanting it there,
seeing what we want to see,
avoiding what really is and must be,
logic is true and never changes,
because it is always relentless,
the is truth is seen as vindictive,
fakir magic untruth

could even be revolting,
so we bury it in some hidden corner,
our minds make for first-class concealment,
forgetting that it was ever there,
a persona nurtured but not in truth,
pretending, always pretending,
we lose ourselves in ourselves,
we’ve forgotten how serene the truth once was,
how easy it was to live with,
nurturing a persona that we no longer recognize,
a false ideal if it ever was,
whilst all the time forgetting why,
a slow deterioration.

Sorry to be pedantic - I accept most poor spelling as a sign of the times, but 'loose' instead of 'lose' just bugs me.

Otherwise, a good poem.

To Journeywoman
Please, be pedantic, I corrected the spelling
as per your comment.
Please accept my sincerest apology.
Thanks.
Quatro
PS. I had to change the word loose about 5 times.

I'm glad you didn't take offense, that shows you're a real writer who can accept constructive criticism. I've always been better at editing than writing anyway!

How could I take offense if, like you said its constructive criticism.
I thank you again

This poem is excellent! You must have written it yourself as it's not attributed to anyone.
I'm not an expert but in my opinion it's very well written.

If this isn't too invasive a question~ where did your inspiration for this poem come from?

Oh and Huangqin...I'd like a pair of those Persephone sandals in a ladies size 7.

Hi Deanna
I never thought to add a message saying that this is my own work so after your comment I went back and modified it with such a message.
All the posts I've placed on Orble are my original work.
Thank you for your very encouraging words I do appreciate it very much knowing that people like my work.
My inspiration comes from my daily experience, I know what I want to write and start with that in mind. Where it all ends up is another matter and I have to revise my work a few times until I'm happy with it.
Thank you again for your very kind words.
Quatro or
Alex.
